When you start growing hair in areas you don’t want to, the initial reaction is to get rid of it. Shaving, as stated in our previous blog about effective hair removal, is the cheapest and the most convenient way of doing so. Unfortunately, with shaving, the hair will start growing back after a few days with side effects like ingrown hairs and razor bumps.

Whether the unwanted hair is on your face, chest, legs, or back, you are surely looking for effective hair removal with permanent results. This is especially true if you are tired of shaving, waxing, and using other removal methods that doesn’t have long-lasting results.

Is there such thing as 100% permanent hair removal?

While there are number of hair removal methods that work better than conventional ones, keep in mind that you cannot achieve 100% permanent results, especially with just one treatment.

The main reason for this is because only a certain percentage of the hair is treated in one session. Moreover, treatment is only effective when the hair is still connected to the hair follicle (known as the Anagen stage).

hair-growth-cycle

When the hair is still connected to the follicle, the energy from the device damages the follicle disabling the hair growth and providing permanent hair reduction (but not necessarily 100% permanent hair removal).

However, only a certain percentage of our hair is at this stage at any given time. This is the reason why you will need a minimum of 8 and 12 sessions spaced 2 to 8 weeks apart are needed to achieve good and lasting results.

Understanding that there is no such thing as 100% permanent will help manage your expectations and avoid disappointments in the future. You can benefit from consulting an experienced aesthetic doctor in Singapore to learn more about your choices and determine the method that suits you best.

What are my choices for effective hair removal?

Here at Cutis Laser Clinics in Singapore, we offer three permanent hair reduction devices that can help you achieve smooth and hair-free skin. All devices target and destroy the hair follicle underneath the skin to stop or disable future hair growth.

Here are few things you might want to know about these hair reduction devices/methods:

Laser Hair Removal

This popular hair removal treatment uses pulses of laser light that is absorbed by the skin’s melanin (the pigment that gives your eyes, skin, and hair color. The laser light is converted into heat, which then kills and destroys the hair follicles.

At Cutis Laser Clinics, we have the Cutera CoolGlide, which is an FDA-cleared device that has an innovative cooling design and longer wavelength. This can work well on all skin types and darker complexions, while enabling safe and lasting hair reduction results.

Do take note that laser hair removal cannot guarantee 100% removal of hair, but only “permanent hair reduction”. It can remove at least 80% of hair and any left behind should be fine and light.

Prowave IPL Hair Removal

The Cutera Prowave IPL (intense pulsed light) is an FDA-approved hair removal device that delivers a special light onto the skin, which is absorbed by the pigments. This then stops the ability of the hair follicles to grow further. It has multiple wavelengths and can deliver light to hundreds of hair follicles at a single time.

IPL can work well on different parts of the body, including the face, legs, chest, and back. It is suitable for those with medium to light skin and features an adjustable setting to make sure that the session is optimized to a certain skin type.

While IPL may share similarities with laser hair removal, IPL uses broad-spectrum wavelengths (like a light bulb) that cannot be focused into a concentrated beam like a laser. You can learn more about the difference between laser and IPL hair removal by checking out our previous post.

LHE Hair Removal

Light Heat Energy (LHE) hair removal uses both heat and light energy to target hair follicles. It delivers flashes of broad-spectrum light that targets the pigment in the hair, which then increases the temperature of follicles. The combined energies of both light and heat lead to the destruction of the hair follicle.

LHE can deal with unwanted hair in your face and body, as well as larger areas like the back. Similar to IPL, LHE is also suitable for medium to light skin types especially sensitive skin types because of its lower fluence (light energy) levels which increases the device’s safety margin.

At Cutis Laser Clinics, we have Touch Elite with LHE, which maintains a high level of efficacy. It is safe, relatively painless, and offers advanced permanent hair reduction.

The Takeaway

No single session of any hair removal method can guarantee 100% permanent results. However, the procedures mentioned above are safe and clinically-proven in providing permanent hair reduction. Several sessions are required to see optimal results.
