CHIN & JAWLINE

A more defined chin or jawline area is considered more attractive and youthful in both men and women. It helps create a natural contour in the lower face, as well as bring balance to your facial features. This then provides a more youthful look and a masculine or feminine facial profile.

Unfortunately, not everyone is blessed with a sharp or a defined chin or jawline. Some are born with a weak chin, while others lose definition in the lower part of the face as time goes by. Excess fat, sagging skin, and jowls all contribute to hiding a facial profile that was once sharp and youthful.

What causes a weak chin/ jawline profile?

There are a few reasons why you may have a weak chin or an undefined jawline. These include:

  • Genetics – This determines your face shape and influences many of your physical features, including jaw shape and structure. This is why in many cases, a weak chin can be due to genetics or inherited from a parent or grandparent.
  • Aging - As you age, you may start to lose definition in the lower face. Jawbone volume also decreases with age, providing less support to the surrounding soft tissues. This then creates a sagging appearance and less definition around the chin and jawline area.
  • Increase in fat deposits – This can also occur in aging and be accompanied by sagging or loosening skin. It can then result in the development of jowls or double chin.

A stronger jawline for men

Apart from being considered a sign of fitness and youth, a stronger or sharper jawline in men is also associated with confidence, power, and dominance. It can also make them look more athletic, chiseled, and masculine. Having a well-defined chin/ jawline, furthermore, can also boost a man’s confidence and improve his overall appearance.

Research and evidence show that men with higher levels of testosterone tend to have stronger and a more pronounced jawline. Not everyone, of course, is blessed with a well-contoured chin. This is why many men turn to aesthetic treatments to create a well-defined jawline and a manly profile.

A slimmer or a well-defined chin and jawline for women

Many women often desire a V-shaped face or a slimmer face, as it is considered more attractive and youthful. In some cases, however, due to an inherited weak chin profile or the result of aging, women are also looking to have a well-defined chin and jawline to look and feel healthy.

Just like in men, a drooping appearance in the chin or jawline area of women negatively affects the harmony and proportion of the face. This can also cause the skin to appear saggy and make nasolabial folds become more prominent. This is also the reason why many women seek treatments to create an ideal profile.
