There’s nothing like going outdoors and feeling the warm sun on your skin. However, if you go outdoors without protecting your skin you’re putting it at risk for serious damage.

The sun gives off ultraviolet (UV) rays which are responsible for sun damage and more visible effects like sunburn. While you might not notice the effects of UV rays right away, over time sun exposure can cause wrinkles, age spots, and other problem areas.

It is important that you protect your skin from the sun whenever you go out, especially if you live in sunny Singapore where the weather is frequently hot and humid.

Here’s a look at three safe procedures to reverse skin damage.

Reverse-Sun-Damage

Skin Treatments for Sun Damage

1. Limelight IPL

Limelight IPL is an innovative laser that uses FDA cleared “intense pulsed light” technology to create a customized treatment plan for each patient. The procedure is designed to treat sun damage, rosacea, acne, and brown spots on a face for clear, beautiful skin.

During the procedure, light is emitted from the device and absorbed by the brown spots on the skin. Limelight draws out the brown spots from the deeper layer of the skin to the surface.

After the procedure, the brown spots may turn darker like coffee brown which may look worse but rest assured that this is normal. It may get worse before it gets better but after a few days it will scab and flake off revealing a brighter complexion.

Make sure to avoid any artificial tanning or any sun exposure without sun protection at least two weeks before and after your Limelight treatment.

2. VI Peel

The VI Peel is a safe and effective chemical peel treatment available only in Cutis Laser Clinic in Singapore. This procedure is used to treat sun damage and even fine lines and acne marks on the face, neck, and even the chest.

It also acts as an effective pigmentation treatment in reducing the appearance of freckles and brown spots.

What makes VI Peel effective is an optimal blend of salicylic acid, trichloroacetic acid (TCA), vitamin C, phenol, and various other clinically-proven ingredients to target the skin at the right depth to improve the texture and tone of the skin.

The treatment involves the application of a solution directly on the face which needs to remain in your skin for at least 4 hours. Your skin may look sun-tanned but you can leave the clinic and wash off at your home.

After the VI Peel procedure, the body’s natural elastin and collagen production are triggered which helps improve the look of skin over several month periods.

The peeling normally happens on the second or third day after your treatment and may last up to seven days. Remember to avoid picking or peeling your skin as it can lead to irritation, scars, and pigmentation.

3. Pearl Resurfacing

Pearl laser resurfacing is an FDA-cleared laser procedure that is used to effectively reverse the signs of aging. The treatment offers the perfect blend of safety, proven results, and a short recovery time compared to factional procedures.

Pearl works effectively as it stimulates the growth of new, healthier and smoother skin.

During the procedure, the Pearl resurfacing laser treats the top layer of the skin with pulses of light removing a portion of the sun-damaged skin surface. This triggers the skin to produce a natural protective dressing beneath. After three to five days the protective dressing peels off revealing a fresher, healthier-looking face with a “pearly” glow.

Although there is a downtime of five to seven days, you can see a noticeable improvement on your skin with just one Pearl treatment.

Many people who undergo Pearl resurfacing treatment are satisfied with the results after just one treatment but others may also consider for a second session to maintain the results as our skin continue to get damaged by the sun over the years.

Preventing Sun Damage

While there are several non-invasive treatments that have been found to effectively treat sun damaged skin, you ideally want to prevent sun damage from developing in the first place.

Avoid overexposure to the sun, and when you have to go out for extended periods of time, use protective gear such as a hat or umbrella. Also, apply sunscreen before going outdoors to protect the skin from harmful UV rays.
