VI Peel What to Expect Before, During, and After

The basics of VI Peel

The VI (Vitality Institute) Peel is a medium-depth chemical peel that targets and resurfaces the skin’s top layer. It uses a chemical peel solution that is applied on the skin, which then creates micro-damage on the outermost layer, causing it to “peel off”. This exfoliates the treated area and promotes new tissue growth.

Another great thing about VI Peel is that it can also stimulate collagen production and new skin cells. This then allows you to enjoy clearer and smoother skin that also looks more glowing and youthful. It is also worth noting that VI Peel provides a deep peeling effect without the discomfort and downtime associated with other types of peels.

There’s more than one type of VI Peel

Here at Cutis, we have four different types of VI Peel. The right type for you will depend on the skin concerns you wish to treat or improve.

VI Peel – The original VI Peel formula is ideal for those looking to address signs of aging, uneven skin tone and texture, and improve overall skin quality. Its strong yet gentle formulation exfoliates the skin and removes the damaged layers, revealing beautiful and youthful skin underneath. VI Peel can:

  • Soften lines and wrinkles
  • Reduce age spots and pigmentation
  • Help smooth rough skin
  • Reduce the appearance of keratosis pilaris (tiny bumps on the skin)

VI Peel Precision Plus – For melasma, sun damage, and pigmentation concerns, VI Peel Precision is a suitable choice. This combats discoloration and restores the skin to its natural health. VI Peel Precision Plus promotes rapid cell turnover and suppresses melanogenesis or the production of melanin (skin pigment). It can:

  • Effectively penetrate damaged skin areas
  • Lightens areas with pigmentation/discoloration
  • Even skin tone and texture

VI Peel Purify – This peel is specifically developed for acne- and blemish-prone skin types. It features a unique formula that can kill acne-causing bacteria, reduce comedones, and balance the skin. VI Peel Purify is suitable for those with active acne, oily skin, and other skin issues brought on by acne symptoms. It can:

  • Clear pores
  • Eliminate P. acnes
  • Calm redness and inflammation

VI Peel Advanced – This chemical peel is ideal for aging skin (40+) or those with fine lines, wrinkles, and loss of elasticity. It offers a deep penetrating power that can soften fine lines and wrinkles and fight other signs of aging. VI Peel Advanced also helps boost collagen stimulation and improve the appearance of loss of skin elasticity. It can:

  • Penetrate more mature skin
  • Smooth away rough skin texture
  • Restore a more even skin tone

What to expect with your VI Peel treatment

If you’re considering VI Peel and are wondering what to expect before, during, and after the treatment, continue reading.

Before –It is important to avoid sun exposure one week before, hair removal (waxing, threading, depilatory creams) 10 to 14 days before, and electrolysis and laser treatments one week before VI Peel. It is also advisable to avoid Retin-A and any exfoliating products three days prior.

During – The procedure starts with cleansing the skin followed by the application of the chemical peel solution. During the latter, patients may feel a slight tingling sensation. This, however, is tolerable and does not require topical anesthetics or pain medication. Just do take note that VI Peel has two phases.

  • 1st phase – the formula penetrates skin cells on the skin’s surface. This is followed by wiping the face using a retinol towel.
  • 2nd phase – The VI Peel solution penetrates deeper into the dermis where there is a buildup of toxins and dead skin cells.

You will need to let the VI Peel solution rest on your skin. You will go home with it still on your face and wash it after four hours using a cleanser provided by the clinic.

After – There are no immediate side effects after your VI Peel treatment. Peeling of the skin happens after two to three days and will continue for up to six days. During this process, you will experience skin color changes (yellowish, brownish, and reddish tone), but these are normal.

Once the peeling is finished, you’ll notice a clearer and more glowing complexion. You will also see continuous improvements over time. Just make sure to follow the proper aftercare, such as avoiding sun exposure as much as possible during the peeling phase and using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher daily.

Sessions needed and longevity of results

A single session can provide noticeable improvements, but you may be required to undergo multiple sessions depending on your goals and skin concerns. This is especially true for those with noticeable skin changes due to acne scars, enlarged pores, and hyperpigmentation.

The results of VI Peel, unfortunately, are not permanent; they last three to four months. You can prolong the results by following a good skincare regimen, such as avoiding prolonged sun exposure, wearing sunscreen, and avoiding harsh cosmetics. You can also undergo VI Peel three to four times a year to maintain the results.
